The capital of Spain since 1562,
is located on the geographic centre of
the Iberian Peninsula. Because of
its central location and high altitude,
the climate of Madrid is
characterized by warm dry summers and
cool winters.
In the centre of the old Madrid,
the narrow cobblestone streets can fool
the senses into thinking you're in a
pueblo of centuries ago. Fact is, little
has changed in this part of the city and
I genuinely appreciate the restoration
efforts of city government. Historic
sites such as Plaza Mayor and Puerta
del Sol set the stage for an
eye-opening stroll through time.
Madrid's Avenue of Art is the city's
crown jewel boasting THREE
world-renowned museums. Housing works
from famed artists such as Picasso,
Velázquez, El Greco, and Rubens, Madrid
is the saturated epicentre of Art in
Spain. Exquisite art can also commonly
be found in the forms of architecture,
sculptures, and fountains along the
Calle de Alcalá, Paseo del Prado, and
throughout the city. I especially love
the ancient Greek/Romanesque fountains
of Madrid!
As I say on my own website, Madrid
is "the capital city of culture &
family, energy & art, excitement &
romance." Nowhere else in the world have
I seen such a powerful combination of
virtues and diversions. Local madrileños
certainly take full advantage of their
city's benefits so why shouldn't you?
Experience Madrid and absorb all
the magic she has to offer. You'll not
only be glad you did, but you'll
probably be changed forever.
